Sunday Solitude at Aldrich Butte

Well, it was a Sunday in February, and the gloomy clouds covered the sky. What a perfect day for a trek out to the Gorge! No, really, it was a perfect hike day. Not too cold, not too hot. There had recently been a landslide in the Gorge on the Oregon side, and I-84 E … Continue reading

Mid-January at the Rhododendron Garden

This raptor was sitting on the puniest tree. And then I accidentally scared him! Too much staring, I guess. A while back, I took a nice, long walk at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens. It’s so close to where I live, it’s my favorite place to go. I couldn’t believe that there were flowers. This … Continue reading

Christmas Day 2013

I got a zoom lens for my camera this Christmas. I am now able to take better pictures of Mount Hood and downtown Portland buildings. And ducks (but that comes in the next post!). I took a ride up Terwilliger on Christmas Day. It was a sunny day, and a great opportunity to try out … Continue reading

Waclella Falls

I went to Wahclella Falls a couple of weeks ago. It was the first hike I did in the Gorge, when I first visited here. It’s a short hike, but beautiful. The falls are big, loud, and misty. It was so cold, there were snowflakes on the ground.

But, it always intimidated me–the thought of going–because of the entrance fee ($9.50 for adults), and because of their seemingly strict … Continue reading

Wind Mountain, A Classic Hike

It’s been a while! I did a hike at Wind Mountain on 19 October, and am just getting to posting about it today, on 5 November! I’ve been busy applying for jobs! Wind Mountain is one of my favorite hikes in the Gorge. It has not let me down yet, I think I’ve hiked the … Continue reading

Golden Hour at the Rhododendron Garden

Today (15 Oct 2013) and yesterday have been beautiful fall days, with gorgeous sunsets. After a long day, it was time to check out the ducks and the golden sunlight at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. The entrance is always worth appreciating. Here’s this wood duck! I can’t believe a took a photo like this! … Continue reading

Mirror Lake

On 3 October, I took a hike at Mirror Lake near Mount Hood. It was a bit chilly, intensely foggy, but fairly uncrowded. The trail in great shape, up until Tom Dick and Harry Mountain trail, where it got smaller and quite rocky. Mirror Lake was tiny! I was expecting bigger, but it was very … Continue reading
